Venom

Here at the Australian Venom Zoo, milking of venomous animals for research is a big part of the job. We run a Bio-Prospecting company in Kuranda, QLD. Stuart Douglas has over 20 years experience as a venomous animals expert and field guide. As well as a sound understanding of the bio-pharmaceutical (The application of biological technology research to the development of pharmaceutical products that improve human health, animal health, and agriculture) business, as I have watched it evolve over the last 10 years. Stuart has appeared in numerous documentaries whilst offering expert advice on the care and well being of rare venomous Australian animals.

The Australian Venom Zoo specialises in Bio-Prospecting and field collection of venomous animals throughout Australasia. We actively seek out the worlds leading experts in bio-pharmaceutical research to screen our companies venom by contract with shared outcomes.

Australian Tarantulas (our Bio-Prospecting Company Name) has numerous licenses allowing us to harvest venoms and animals which we can supply to researches in Australia and overseas for bio-pharmaceutical testing.

Australian Tarantulas and Australian Venom Zoo specialise in captive breeding of unidentified and rare venomous animals. Captive breeding allows us to have a constant supply of venom for researchers, as well as maintaining a large stockpile of freeze dried venom for ongoing testing.

We are an advocate of the preservation and protection of all wildlife, and it is one of our firmly held beliefs that nature has the answers. The more that we look into why nature has made these venomous animals, the more we can learn how they can be used to help us. There is already a precedence with other tarantula and scorpion venoms which they are starting to make pharmaceutical drugs from.
